Sir Steve Bullock is Chairman of the Housing & Finance Institute. He is also Chair of Sutton Housing Partnership, a company set up in 2006 to manage council housing stock on behalf of Sutton Council.
Steve was elected as the London Borough of Lewisham's first directly elected Mayor in May 2002, serving until 2018. Immediately prior to becoming Mayor he was Chair of the University Hospital Lewisham NHS Trust.
Sir Steve was first elected as a councillor in 1982 and served as Leader of Lewisham Council from 1988 to 1993.
Sir Steve has previously served as Deputy Chair of the Local Government Association, where he chaired the Commercial Advisory Board and was also Deputy Leader of the Labour Group. He was London Councils' Executive Member for Housing and was Vice-Chair of the Homes for London Board. He was also a member of the Board of Governors of the Museum of London.
Sir Steve was born in Redcar, North Yorkshire, and now lives in Forest Hill with his wife, Kris. In his spare time he enjoys football and folk music. He was knighted in 2007.
