Two thirds of authorities in England saw housebuilding completions rise in the last year

New figures from DCLG show Q3 housebuilding starts and completions in England holding their upward trend with housing starts +2% on Q3 last year. This is supported by the stronger performance of Net Housing Supply figures out last week which showed a 25% surge year on year.

Private enterprise, which has seen a marked acceleration this year, continues its momentum with starts +3% y/y and completions surging +13% y/y in the 12 months to September 2015. This resonates with our experience at the HFi from our business engagement programme. At our most recent business forum, which included representatives from across the housing business spectrum, we recorded broad levels of optimism for both finance and construction opportunities in the market.

change in number of completions

In the same vein, we have also seen a great appetite to do more from local councils engaging with our Housing Business Ready (HBR) programmes. This latest release of housebuilding data shows that over the last twelve months housing completions are up in almost two thirds of authorities (see map). This is a testament to councils up and down the country who are grasping the task of enabling housing delivery in their areas with both hands.

Our Housing Business Ready (HBR) Programmes are designed to support councils to better articulate their housing strategy, assess opportunities and delivery methods available to them and optimise the speed, value and fit of housing outcomes. There are three Programmes which vary by intensity and we work to find the right fit for councils at that point in time for their housing strategy and housing delivery ambitions.
